Just saw the new british wallander, and to be honest, it was disappointment. The actors lacked the intensity of their swedish counterparts, the script the intelligence, and although it all looked a lot flashier, the focus was squarely on Wallander himself with little room for development of the other characters. Even though the premise was pretty gory (guy axing away other people), at no moment was there even a hint of tension, or scariness - within 5 seconds the scene was over as if the director was too keen to move the focus back on british wallander himself. In sharp contrast, the more sober production of the Swedish series managed to captivate me week in week out with brilliant acting and a substantially better plot and production overall. Shame...

(tags: wallander bbc ard henning_mankell) [...]
